He’s Never Quite Gone

Tell women folk I’m still around,
Those years you thought I went to ground,
I simply stayed clear,
And relived their fear,
Stay quiet or your next to be found.
A dark Victorian gothic illustration of a well-dressed Victorian gentleman sitting in an ornate high-back chair. He smiles sinisterly at the viewer. Above him, a clearly defined thought cloud reveals his imagined memory: the same gentleman wielding a knife with a gleeful, menacing expression. Moody candlelit atmosphere, dramatic shadows, antique interior, literary gothic style, richly detailed, unsettling but non-graphic, no blood, no gore, no text.
