Sound Advice

Early to bed,
Early to rise,
Makes a man healthy,
Wealthy and wise,

In all my days,
Never heard such shit,
Gnomic crap,
Masquerading as wit,

Most of us here,
Will land in a jam,
Life's quite fickle,
Not going to plan,

Plenty of confusion,
Seek a way out,
Much going on,
Too much doubt,

Need a solution,
Need a good plan,
Try to see clearly,
You're a good man,

Now if you want,
Some good advice,
Go down the pub,
Do not think twice,

Sit in a corner,
With a small beer,
Keep your ears open,
Bollocks you'll hear,

Every so often,
You might hear,
Pearls of wisdom,
Reaching your ear,

The speaker's rarely,
What you'd expect,
Probably dressed like,
An Oxfam reject,

But their advice,
Come from a place,
Not very pleasant,
It lined their face,

he wisdom's good,
Its value is real,
Take it or leave it,
Whatever you feel,

Free wise words,
Best you can get,
Carefully use them,
But not just yet,

Take the advice,
Ask others too,
Some just isn't,
Quite right for you,

Get three opinions,
See if they match,
If they seem iffy,
Go back to scratch.

Wisdom is power,
To steady your arm,
Have a solution?
It works a charm.

A moody cinematic editorial illustration for a dark poetry website: a solitary man in a shadowy old pub subtly eavesdropping from the edge of the room while a lively crowd gathers around a table in deep discussion. Warm amber pendant lights, dark wood, smoky atmosphere, expressive silhouettes and hushed gestures, noir mood, literary and mysterious, tasteful composition, no readable text, no logos.
