I Have Been Loved

I’ve never known peace, never known rest,
Worrying darkness, lurks deep in my breast,
My family held me when I broke.

Born to a mother, who knew what to do,
She tidied my hair and buckled my shoe,
She stood between me and the dark.

I met a young girl, the great love my life,
She learned to love me, became my wife,
She shared with me, all of her love.

We had a daughter with eyes oh so blue,
Through her we saw the world anew,
We enveloped her with our love.

In time we welcomed Grandsons two,
Unreservedly loved them; they loved us too,
We cherish them with all of our hearts.

When my fate comes, my thread is torn,
Those I’ve abandoned, they’ll miss me and morn,
Through their tears I’ll be forgiven.

Hiding my darkness, I’ve struggled alone,
The one kind of love that I’ve never knew,
I never learned to love myself.

A poignant cinematic digital illustration for a dark poetry blog: a miserable adult man sits alone in a dim, sparsely furnished room with his head buried in his hands, conveying isolation and despair. Behind him, closed patio doors reveal every member of his family standing outside together, warmly lit and visibly concerned, all speaking in unison through the glass with the exact readable message: "You Are Loved!!!" Moody blue-gray interior, warm golden light outside, strong emotional contrast, tasteful and non-graphic, realistic painterly style, wide composition.
